Gannets in Alderney

OK - not gulls...but surely one of our most enigmatic seabirds - the Northern Gannet. Having been in a boat around one of the two colonies in Alderney last weekend, I thought I'd post a few photos. Between Les Etacs (know locally as the Garden Rocks) (below) and Ortac, there are currently almost 8,000 pairs of this amazing seabird nesting in the Channel Islands...and as you can see the largest colony can be seen well, smelt and heard from the adjacent cliff tops of Alderney.
